David has worked in collaboration with designer Bruce Mau and with film maker John Greyson on many experimental and multi-media musical projects, including Fig Trees (2003; video installation/opera, John Greyson, director) and Roppongi Hills Project (2001; large scale Tokyo video installation, commissioned by Bruce Mau Design).

FIG TREES was a video installation opera, about Zackie Achmat, the South African AIDS activist, which was presented at Oakville Art Galleries in October, 2003. Each of the eight installations was a "scene" of several minutes in length, consisting of video loops playing on monitors or as projections, and staged in such site-specific environments as a staircase, a sushi-bar, and a mini-van. Viewers went from room to room, from stairs to van, immersing themselves in the operatic narrative. Together the installations told the story of Achmat’s principled treatment strike, how he refused to take his AIDS meds until they were widely available to all South Africans. The MORI PERPETUAL QUARTET was commisioned by Bruce Mau design to accompany the Roppongi Hills project, a large-scale, multi-screened video installation exhibited in Tokyo in 2001. Each instrument (2 violins, viola, cello) was recorded separately and played through separate speakers in randomly synchronized loops.
